Manny Being … Punto?

I just wanted to share this with you guys:

“Manny being Manny–I know what that means now. He’s an intense workout partner. I think people perceive him the wrong way sometimes, because this guy really loves the game. He loves everything that goes along with it. He’s working out hard and he’s going to be ready to play this season, for sure.” –Twins infielder Nick Punto, on working out with Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez this offseason.
That’s right. Punto worked out with Manny this offseason. He describes Manny as his “workout partner.” So what can we take from this? That Punto has learned to start raising his hands victoriously after smashing a lazy fly ball to left field? Or that he’s learned how to make sure his helmet falls off when he runs?

And … why did Manny Ramirez work out with Nick Punto? I think that is the best example ever of “Manny being Manny.” He’s just a bit of a weird guy.

Is this is first offseason working out with Manny? If so maybe it will help his game. If not, then they are both still stupid and I hate them.

But really, its quite the odd couple. Punto is a very hard working player but has no natural ability, talent or baseball skills to speak of. Manny on the other hand is very lazy, but has ungodly amounts of talen and ability.

I don’t know if they’ve worked out together in the past.

And I don’t know if Manny is actually lazy. He doesn’t seem to care about fielding, which is why people get that impression. But everybody says he works hard to stay in shape and spends a lot of time taking extra batting practice — and it’s pretty obvious that that practice has been effective.

That said, he’s an annoying douchebag, who cares more about himself than his team or the sport.

It may actually be interesting to see what effect this has on Punto.

If he were on any other team there is no way he would be allowed to own a glove. However, the Red Sox also have the one person who is worse at fielding than Manny in the form of DOrtiz, so Manny and his water bottle are forced into the shadow of the green monster everyday.

Yes, he is an annoying selfish douchebag. The next time he stands at home plate admiring one of his homerruns he better get plunked hard. Hopefully Joba or Phil Hughes can take care of that. I wonder if them never hitting Manny for being a jackass was a Torre thing or because they had guys like Mike Mussina and Kei Igawa starting games.

A source that I trust informed me that Punto smokes a pretty fair amount of pot. There is no way that I can confirm it, but I’ve got a pretty good feeling Ramirez may as well. Maybe they have the same dealer? Or maybe they just share the fact that they have both been hated by the hometown crowds at times. Who knows? It seems like an odd pairing though, especially since most of the times workout pairs on different MLB teams are countrymen.
