Mismanaging games since 2002

Kyle Lohse, You Suck!

Who does Kyle Lohse think he is?  While Scott Boras may be crying collusion, I just think GMs realize signing Lohse to a long term contract isn’t a wise investment. He is inconsistent on the mound, and unstable in the head. Why pay him lots of money for a long time.  Boras is willing to allow Lohse to sit out April, and even May in the hopes teams will get desperate for a healthy starting pitcher and a bidding war will start. I don’t see this happening.  Teams have shown a willingness to hand the ball over to young pitchers from their own system, and try to win with them.  I think Lohse needs to swallow his pride, and accept whatever minor league or 1 year deal he is offered.  He can’t really afford to miss all of spring training, and part of the season.  Roger Clemens could because he was really good (steroids asides, he was a damn fine pitcher). Kyle Lohse is not the Rocket and can’t come in mid season and dominate opposing lineups.  He is a back of the rotation starter, and he needs to realize he isn’t an ace.  His career could take a turn for the worse, if like Keyshawn Johnson who didn’t realize he was actually a possession receiver, he doesn’t wake up.

Clemens actually couldn’t do it — that’s why he didn’t really do much in the way of dominating last year.

But I seriously doubt there’s any collusion here. Consistently posting an ERA over 4.50 in the NL isn’t really that great, and it seems like Lohse is still trying to sell his potential. The thing is … he’s not 23 any more. He’s now a below average pitcher and a terrible clubhouse presence. And everyone knows it.

It’ll be interesting to see if he fires Boras for turning down the 3 year, $20M deal the Phillies offered him, which has since been taken off the table.

I was referring to the days with the Astros a few years back, when Clemens was still good. Not last year.

Haha, fine. Then it counts. (Although I think your point still stands … I doubt Lohse could match Clemens’ 2007 if he were in the AL.)

I agree with that. After noticing that a fair amount of crappy players read blogs, I’m hoping Lohse reads this one. I have a feeling he randomly googles anit-Gardy phrases every once in a while, so he is bound to stumble upon this site.

Oh I’m sure Lohse hates Gardy’s guts.

I just wonder if Lohse hates Santana too.

On the one hand, Lohse seems to be filled with anger. And we all know that anger leads to hate.

On another hand, Lohse came up with Santana and seemed to have similar potential (and a better arm).

On a third hand, reality happened. Lohse blows and Johan’s the best pitcher in baseball.

I think a 1 year, $2 million deal would be incredibly fitting, given Johan’s new $130M+ deal. The timing is brilliant.

In order to get that he will have to fire Boras. I don’t think Boras will let him sign anything that is a one year deal. He would rather have him sit out. It is much more important for Lohse to get into camp with a team and be training with other major leaguers. i think right now he is just working out with Jeff Weaver.

Ouch. Jeff Weaver is close to the last guy you would want to be working out with.

Boras’s plan is probably to wait until teams suffer injuries and need fresh pitching help, at which point Lohse and Freddy Garcia will be competing for the spot.

The problem with that plan is that Lohse isn’t a better bet than bringing up an average prospect from AAA. So I can’t see a GM deciding to spend big money on that kind of production.

    Boras is losing it.
