This doesn't pertain to the current post, but I just need to rant right now.

Current game: at Boston, Monday, July 7

The Twins just loaded the bases in the top of the 8th after a bunt single by Casilla, a single by Mauer, and a walk by Morneau. Due up is Jason Kubel, with a .949 OPS over his last 42 games. So what does the genius Gardenhire do? Pull him in favor of Craig Monroe because Okajima, a lefty, is on the mound. Never mind the fact that Monroe is hitting .141/.236/.250 against lefties this season. Monroe proceeds to pop out followed by a one pitch ground out by Delmon Young, who has suddenly regressed back to the start of the season after a promising June. I think he's seen about six pitches in three at bats tonight.

But the inept managing doesn't end there. It's still a scoreless tie going into the bottom of the 8th. So you bring in one of our better relievers, right? Guerrier, Crain? Nope. Brian Bass. Granted he's been pitching better of late, but you have the 2-3-4 hitters for Boston coming up in a tie game in the 8th inning. What justifies bringing in Bass over Crain, or Guerrier, or Nathan? Oh right, you have to save Nathan for some save situation that MIGHT happen. So Bass gives up a lead off double to Pedroia, who advances to third on Drew's groundout, and then scores on Ramirez's single. Bass then walks Lowell before giving way to Jesse Crain, who manages to saves Bass' sorry ass and limit the Red Sox to a single run.

But in the blink of an eye, Papelbon mows down our 7-8-9 hitters to end the game.

I'd like to thank the wonderful Ron Gardenhire for the loss tonight. He made it all possible!

At least the players know to listen to directions ... from the worst coach of all time.

(I guess I shouldn't use hyperbole like that. Ullger's got nothing on Dusty Baker.)

It seems that our players rarely run through stop signs. Either Ullger sends them when he shouldn't, or he hesitates and doesn't give a sign until its too late.

Your boy Punto had a nice head first slide into 1st base last night. Idiot.

Was Ulger responsible for sending Punto home last night? I couldn't believe I saw him running for home when Guillen had the ball behind 3rd base.
