Mismanaging games since 2002

Uh Oh…..

Well Joe Mauer is getting an MRI, or MRA or some such thing, on his back and stomach area to determine why he hasn’t full recovered from offseason kidney surgery.  I wasn’t worried about Mauer at all, until.  Maybe its because the keeper deadline in my fantasy baseball league was last week and Mauer is one of my keepers.

Joe has always been a slow starter.  Which should come as no surprise, my guess is the wear and tear a major league catcher (who played 146 games and set a career high in plate appearance) takes during the season causes him to need a little more recovery time.  I also don’t want to run around saying the sky is falling just because Mauer his “discomfort”.  It wasn’t even described as pain.  Hopefully the MRI comes back negative (or positive depending on how you look at it).  I think the most difficult part of all of this is not knowing what is wrong with him.  If we knew what the problem is, we would know how to treat it, and get Joe back on the field quicker.  Everyone on the Internet seems to be putting together lineups in case Mauer has to miss the start of the season.  I do not want to do that.  I still believe Joe won’t miss any time, I also refuse to believe he is “injury-prone”.  He isn’t.

Thank goodness for the extra week. Hopefully they can make a quick diagnosis and get Mauer fixed ASAP. It’s surprising that the recovery from an October surgery isn’t over by now- I wonder if one of the surgeons dropped a sponge or something.

The surgery was in December, but its still surprising. He was supposed to be back up and running by now. I’m sure if he could he would be, so I just want to put it out that now that I don’t believe he is milking this or anything.

Yeah, I don’t believe for a second that he is exaggerating his discomfort. From everything I’ve read, Mauer’s as anxious to get out on the field as anyone.

I don’t think milking it is any possibility.

Losing Mauer would really hurt bad, but if push comes to shove we have Redmond and Morales who can hold down the fort reasonably well until he gets back. The Twins are unusually strong behind the plate.

It’s really time for a Mauer Watch.

well the MR whatever takes place tomorrow. So hopefully we know more soon.

I do not want to be worried about Mauer. Hopefully this MR* either finds what’s wrong or confirms that nothing’s wrong.

Although given the Boof fiasco, how much can we trust the Twins’ doctors right now?

Didn’t someone say earlier “bad things come in threes”. First Neshek, then Boof, are we just waiting for the other shoe to drop?

We’re waiting for the third shoe to drop?

Is there something about anatomy that I missed while sleeping through biology class?

Well, since bonser and neshek are both relief pitchers, maybe they are one shoe? Either way, I couldn’t think of a better way to phrase it.

Neshek and Bonser, while valuable bullpen pieces, are just shoes.

Mauer is like the car. If that blows up you have a much tougher time getting around.

The first shoe to drop was Gardy declaring who our starting SS and RF were regardless of whether there are better players for the positions. In December.
