Fire Gardy

Mismanaging games since 2002

KC 4 Twins 2

What the hell was that?

Hovechar pretty much couldn’t throw a strike to save his life in the first few innings, yet we still couldn’t get a hit, let alone a run.  Blackburn pitched reasonably well, but if we don’t give him any semblance of support we can’t expect him to win.  We had a pretty fair number of baserunners since we drew a few walks, but we couldn’t move them over at all.  Just pathetic.

I don’t blame Gardy for getting kicked out.  Although he was right, that ball hit Kubel’s foot.

Does anyone know what the Twins can do to make a playoff push here right around the halfway point, or are we just a .500 team?  I’m beginning to think its the latter.

I was hoping Gardy getting tossed would light a fire under the team and get us to play a little better. Alas, no.

And if Mauer would stop killing rallies, that’d help. His bat has looked pretty slow lately, and he just hasn’t been connecting with the ball. Seems to me he needs some time off. If only we had a catcher on our team who could step in and hit every once in a while. Perhaps someone like Morales. Why in blazes doesn’t he ever play?

The pitching staff has looked good in June, but we’re just not scoring runs; the problem is that when Mauer and Morneau aren’t hitting, we can’t score runs. We either need Mauer and Morneau to both have historically good seasons … or we need Cuddyer/Crede/Young/Kubel to step it up and be able to produce runs on their own. I’m not that confident either can happen.

Though it is remarkable that we’ve been hovering within a game of .500 all season. The lack of losing streaks at least gives me hope. Good teams can go a while without a long winning streak, but a good team will never go on a long losing streak. At least that’s promising.
